About this exam
The Upper Primary TET is the eligibility test for teaching classes VI to VIII in West Bengal, conducted by the Central School Service Commission. The paper carries 150 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes: Child Development and Pedagogy, two languages chosen from eight, and either Mathematics and Science or Social Studies. Preparation here is in English, Hindi and Bengali.
- Qualifying mark
- 60%
- Negative marking
- None
- Optional subject
- Maths & Science or Social Studies
- Languages
- Two from eight
- Syllabus status
- Topics not confirmed
West Bengal applies a 5% relaxation, so 55% qualifies for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PH/DA, EC, Ex-Servicemen and Death-in-harness candidates.
Every question carries one mark and nothing is deducted for a wrong answer.
You sit one of the two, not both. It is worth 60 of the 150 marks.
The Commission offers Bengali, English, Hindi, Nepali, Oriya, Santhali, Telugu and Urdu — one as Language I and a different one as Language II. This site prepares three of them: English, Hindi and Bengali.
The pattern above comes from the Commission’s own 2016 question booklet. The list of topics does not: no official Upper Primary syllabus has been found — the documents in circulation are either reverse-engineered from past papers or are the CTET syllabus relabelled — so the syllabus here stays provisional.

Paper II
150 questions · 150 marks · 90 minutes · no negative marking
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Child Development & Pedagogy | 30 | 30 |
| Language IChoose from Bengali, English, Hindi | 30 | 30 |
| Language IIChoose from Bengali, English, Hindi | 30 | 30 |
| Mathematics & Science | 60 | 60 |
| Social Studies / Social Science | 60 | 60 |
| Total | 150 | 150 |
These parts add up to more than 150 because the paper offers a choice: you sit one of the optional subjects, not all of them. Your own paper still comes to 150 questions.
